Candidates in J&K seek reconsideration of waiting list for govt jobs

Srinagar, Oct 18: Candidates from Jammu and Kashmir on Friday appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to reconsider the waiting list for government vacancies, citing mass resignations in various departments.

Hundreds of candidates currently on the waiting list for various government posts told Rising Kashmir that they are urging the CM to take action as hundreds of posts are still vacant in several departments. “We request the CM to reconsider the waiting list as many vacancies are unfilled and this is our only hope for employment,” said a candidate.

They are demanding a one-time waiver for availing the waiting list, especially in the wake of large-scale layoffs. The candidates believe this would be a fair solution to address the large number of vacancies and ensure that deserving candidates do not miss out on opportunities due to unforeseen circumstances in the workforce.

They highlighted that over 500 candidates are on the waiting list for the latest exams and many fear they may lose their eligibility due to the age restriction. A candidate, who wished to remain anonymous, shared his ordeal and said, “I am crossing the age limit for government exams and if this decision is not reconsidered, I will not have a second chance.” He further said that he spent the last five years preparing for the JKSSB exam, leaving him helpless.

The candidates also mentioned that they have raised the issue with several officials but have only received assurances and no concrete steps have been taken to address their concerns.

They pointed out that neighbouring states like Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Gujarat have successfully implemented similar measures, filling vacancies through waiting lists and maximising the potential of deserving candidates. They urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to adopt such a practice in Jammu and Kashmir and called for a reconsideration of waiting lists to ensure a fair opportunity for deserving candidates.

For many of these candidates, this decision could define their future and bring much-needed relief.
